Chapter 3 - Setting off on a journey to fulfill their dreams.
My name is Vil Craft. I was a blacksmith in the royal capital. One day, I was betrayed by my fiancée and my own brother. They were having an affair behind my back and even had a child together. To make matters worse, my brother took my new home and shop from me. Furious at their behavior, I decided to leave the royal capital.
"Ah... what should I do now?" I found myself in a forest not far from the royal capital, sitting in the shade of a tree, looking up at the sky, and pondering my future.
"I don't feel like going back to the royal capital. Even if they apologize, I won't return." What should I do with my shop next? My brother, who was now the shop's owner, would have to deal with that.
"What should I do about my work as Happosai?" Happosai, the legendary blacksmith name that has been passed down since ancient times. I used to create incredible items that ordinary people could not make at the request of the country, repair the city's barrier, and maintain the hero's sacred sword.
It was impulsive to leave like this, but what if I just abandoned Happosai's work? "The city's barrier should hold for about a year. The hero's sacred sword should last about the same time. But... what happens after that?" Who would maintain the barrier and the sacred sword?
"Well, Sechin, who took over the shop, can do it. That's right... Grandpa Ganko said it, didn't he? The true mission of Happosai is not maintenance." I recalled my grandfather's words.
"Listen well, Vil. The role of the successive Happosais is to create divine artifacts and dedicate them to the heavens." My grandfather, Ganko Craft, said this. He was the previous Happosai. My father didn't have the "golden hands" needed to inherit Happosai, so Grandpa Ganko (his nickname) passed the title to me, his grandson.
"What are divine artifacts, Grandpa?" "They are special magical tools that unleash power akin to miracles from the gods. We Happosais have been honing our skills to create divine artifacts since ancient times."
With that, Grandpa Ganko gave me one of the divine artifacts he had created. "This is an example. Use this divine artifact as a reference, Vil. You must create your own original divine artifact and dedicate it to the heavens. Understand?"
"That's right. What I want to do is become an amazing craftsman like Grandpa Ganko and create divine artifacts." I took a small hammer from the holster on my waist. A silver hammer, small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. This was one of the divine artifacts created by Grandpa Ganko, the "Divine Hammer Mjolnir".
"The maintenance work was a business my father started when Grandpa died and we were struggling to make ends meet. In other words, it's not the true mission of Happosai."
On his deathbed, my father had said this: "Vil, if there ever comes a time when you leave the shop, you're free to live as you please." Just minutes before he passed away, he told me this as I stood by his bedside. At that time, my foolish brother wasn't there. In hindsight, he was probably having a good time with some flighty woman.
"The shop management and maintenance work can be done by anyone else with enough training. But there's only one person in the world who can fulfill the mission of Happosai: you, the one with the golden hands." My father tightly gripped my hand with his wrinkled one. "I don't really care about the shop or the business I started. However, the name and techniques of Happosai, passed down through generations, as well as the mission... must absolutely be carried on to future generations."
With that, my father took his last breath.
"Father... Grandpa Ganko..." I looked at the back of the hand holding the hammer. There, a single emblem was drawn - the emblem of the sun. This was proof of the owner of the golden hands.
"I understand. I'll live as I please. As Happosai, I'll create my own divine artifacts!" I decided on my future course of action. I would leave the shop and maintenance to Sechin, who had taken over the shop, and I would set out on a journey to create divine artifacts.
"I'll travel the country, honing my skills, gathering materials and inspiration, and then... I'll create!" I raised the divine hammer. "Divine artifacts like this Mjolnir that Grandpa Ganko made!"
Now that the decision was made, it was time to take action. "I have to get away from this royal capital as soon as possible. I won't be going back to the shop." Sechin and Silica would surely be troubled, but they'd just have to do their best. I'd make sure they couldn't find me by going as far away as possible.
"Well, it's time for some crafting." I picked up a small stone that had fallen nearby. "Golden hands... activate. Connect with the divine hammer, Mjolnir." The emblem on the back of my hand shone. Five lines extended from the sun's circle, passing through my five fingers, and connecting to the hammer.
"Skill [Super Refining], activate." The line running through my index finger shone brightly. The golden hands held a unique skill related to crafting. It was a one-of-a-kind skill that could only be used by those who possessed the golden hands. All the past Happosai had golden hands, and each had a different crafting skill. I, however, was special among them.
"Vil, you are truly unique. Normally, only one skill dwells within the golden hands. However, you possess five different crafting skills. In the long history of Happosai, this has only happened with you."
Grandpa Ganko had said so. Out of the five options, I activated one.
"【Transmutation: Pebble → Transfer Crystal】"
I declared, striking the pebble with my hammer. The moment I did, the pebble transformed into a beautiful amethyst-colored crystal.
■ Transfer Crystal (SSS)
→ A disposable crystal that allows teleportation to any place visited before.
"Alright, the super transmutation worked without a problem." One of the former holders of the golden hands, Sei Fart, was said to have turned pebbles into gold. Super transmutation is a skill that consumes magic power and materials to create incredible items. However, it only works with items of the same type (※ cannot create water from stones).
I picked up a couple of pebbles.
"【Transmutation: Pebble → Gold】"
In my hand, I held two gold ingots.
"Selling these should provide enough for travel expenses. Of course, I shouldn't do it too much, or the market will be in chaos. I have to be careful." I could also counterfeit gold coins, but that would lead to more trouble, so I didn't. I only went as far as ingots. And even then, moderation was key.
"Now to store these away..."
I raised my divine hammer and swung it at the empty space in front of me.
"■ Open."
A black, square-shaped box appeared before me. This was an item box, or something similar, a special box with a variety of effects. There were many other things inside the square, but for now, that didn't matter.
I stored the ingots, and the preparations were complete.
"Now to use the transfer crystal... Wait, it only takes me to places I've been before. I'd rather go somewhere new and gain some inspiration."
So, I activated super transmutation again.
"【Transmutation: Transfer Crystal → Drifting Transfer Crystal】"
■ Drifting Transfer Crystal (SSS)
→ Teleports the user to a random, unvisited location.
"Drifting transfer, activate!"
My vision went white, and I was teleported away. In an instant, my surroundings changed.
"So, I've been taken to a place I've never been before... a forest?"
I found myself in a rather dark forest. Was it nighttime?
"Kyaaaaaah!"
"! A woman's scream."
Something must have happened. I headed towards the source of the noise.
A girl was being attacked by a bear-like monster.
"I have to help her!"
Weapons are tools for helping people. Craftsmen who create them must not forget the spirit of helping others. These were my father's words.
He apologized for not being able to teach me anything about craftsmanship. But that wasn't true.
I inherited the soul of a craftsman from him.
"Help meeeeee!"
"Grrrooooaarrrrrr!"
As the bear attacked the girl... I rushed in and swung my hammer at its head.
"Stop it."
Bang! The bear was utterly pulverized.
"Amazing... You took out that bear in a single blow...!"
The girl was astonished. Well, I'm glad she was saved.
Oh man, this is just so cliche'd! I went in not knowing what to expect... I kinda guessed this might be the way it would go but well, the author is slapping in every cliche he can think of in this genre lol.
Tell me what you guys think. If no one likes this book, I'll stop translating otherwise I'll continue.
